一、本校是國內唯一辦理僑生大學先修教育之學府。創設於民國44年（1955年）秋季，歷經四個階段之發展。首於教育部前張其昀部長任內，鑒於僑生大學先修教育之重要，合設於臺北縣板橋國立華僑實驗中學。在全國160餘所大學（學院）成立先後順序，本校排名第十，足證歷史悠久。
二、民國48年，梅貽琦部長鑒於僑生「大學先修教育」功能之重要與特殊屬性，將本班學生交由臺大、成大（招收理工醫農學生）、師大、政大（招收文教法商學生）等四校各附辦一至二班。
三、民國51年於前黃季陸部長任內，以僑大為推展僑教之重要學府，應單獨設置，並擴大編制與招生，核定於臺北縣蘆洲國立道南中學原址，獨立設校，正式命名為「國立僑生大學先修班」。其後因蘆洲連年水患，師生安全堪虞；乃於68年，前朱匯森部長任內，核准遷校至林口鄉新址。經六年籌建，於73年8月完成遷校迄今（蘆洲原址，則移撥空大使用）。
四、本校歷屆結業生，均順利分發至各公私立大學校院就讀，分發學校以臺大、成大、師大、政大等著名國立大學為多；且於大學畢業後，不論在學術上繼續深造、研究，或回僑居地開創事業，服務僑社，均有極其優異之表現與貢獻。
1. This school, the only one undertaking preparatory education for overseas Chinese in Taiwan, ROC, was established in the fall of 1955. The total number of universities and colleges in Taiwan is 160 among which this school was the tenth established.
2. In 1959, Mr. Mei Yi-Chyi, Minister of Education, having realized the importance and uniqueness of the function of NUPS, decided to let 4 national universities take over its education, affiliating one to two classes of NUPS students of science, engineering, medicine and agriculture to National Taiwan University and Chen-kung University, and those of liberal arts, law, and commerce to Taiwan Normal University and National Cheng-chi University.
3. In 1962, this school was established independently at Lou Jou, Taipei County, named National University Preparatory School for Overseas Chinese (NUPS). As the original campus being rather low geographically, it was frequently flooded and thus jeopardized the safety of the teachers and students. Later in 1979, Ministry of Education granted the plan to move this school to the present school site in Lin Kou, Taipei County. After six years planning and construction, NUPS completed the moving in August 1984.
4. After completing NUPS education, students had been admitted to national and private universities and colleges. Most of them entered many prestigious universities as National Taiwan, Cheng-kung, Taiwan Normal and Cheng-chi universities. And after their undergraduate education, students had outstanding performance and contribution no matter in further graduate education, or establishing business, serving their society in their overseas hometowns.
